Emmaus International

Throughout his life, Abbé Pierre fought against poverty and its root causes. On International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on 17 October, Abbé Pierre’s words give us some food for thought…

Abbé Pierre was a man of many struggles and commitments.
As well as his work for the homeless in the 1950s, the founder of Emmaus was also committed to many other struggles – peace, democracy, the right to decent housing, the right to asylum and welcoming undocumented persons. He also campaigned against the dictatorship of money, and hunger in the world.

What did all his struggles have in common? The fight against poverty and its deep-rooted causes – a struggle to which Abbé Pierre dedicated his whole life.

International Day for the Eradication of Poverty provides an opportunity to remind ourselves of the strength of Abbé Pierre’s commitment. Feel free to share Abbé Pierre’s ideas below with your contacts.

The campaign will also be on our Facebook page from 17 October.
