The Emmaus Valais community comprises 15 male companions and 4 female companions who do traditional Emmaus community work: collecting, sorting, repairing and reselling second-hand goods at low prices. In 2009, the community acquired a further building, now used to house female companions. Of the community's 700m2 of land, 500m2 are used for orchards and for keeping about 10 hens, which provide eggs for companions to eat. Furthermore, the Emmaus Valais community is a member of the "Table Suisse" organisation, which collects surplus food from supermarkets and gives it to local organisations working to help people affected by poverty. Finally, the group regularly works with young people who have committed minor offences to help them with their rehabilitation.
