The group was set up by Father Louis Blondel, who was murdered in 2009 during an attempted robbery at his church, situated in a township. CORDIS is located near Orange Farm, 40 kilometres from Johannesburg. It is a poor township in which unemployment is rife.

The group’s main activity is brick-making, which gives employment to twenty people. CORDIS also collects items such as clothing, furniture, household appliances and construction materials in Johannesburg and sells them at low prices to the people of Orange Farm.

The group also rents out affordable housing.
