Set up in 1988, around twenty companions work at the Grupo Aportes community all year. The second-hand shop helps finances the group’s social initiatives and enables it to make donations in response to local organisation’s urgent requests and to families living in extreme poverty.

Grupo Aportes helps furnish homes for poor families, for example, in collaboration with the Uruguayan ministry of social development. The companions at the group’s shop also make costumes for the theatre workshop the group runs for secondary school children.

Another sewing workshop gives twelve underprivileged women in the outskirts of Montevideo basic training. Grupo Aportes also runs Casa Paullier, where the America region’s head office is located. The house has room for up to twelve people.

Lastly, Grupo Aportes set up a network of organisations, Enredos, which fights against social exclusion.
