The 13 companions at Emmaus Utrecht live and work at the community, which is made up of 3 sites. Located on a former farm, the companions live at Parkwijk, and carry out the traditional activities of Emmaus communities: collecting, sorting, repairing and selling goods at low prices. The site can also occasionally accommodate people without any financial means and also runs two social enterprises – a restaurant and a wood-recycling workshop – which employ people with disabilities. The site is also used for sorting, storing and selling goods. Lombok, the second site, is a second-hand shop run by a group of volunteers in a former school. Lastly, at Retourshop Overvecht, which was previously a garage, volunteers sort through items, which are either sent to the group’s other second-hand shops or sold on site.
