Since it was first set up in 1999, Emmaus St Albans has welcomed more than 500 companions. There are currently 33 companions living there, who carry out the traditional activities of Emmaus communities of collecting, sorting, repairing and selling quality goods at low prices at five different shops. Companions live in a building which used to accommodate nurses at Cell Barnes Hospital in St Albans. The community is providing assistance with the plan to open an Emmaus community in Barnet, Greater London, and also takes part in sending containers to other Emmaus organisations.
