The movement is governed by elected members with responsibilities at international level – the board, executive committee and world councils, and at regional level – Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe.
The global regions are all represented on each of the governing bodies.
Board
The board meets once a year, bringing together the chair and the 24 Emmaus International board members, who are elected by the four regions. Africa, Asia and the Americas each have four representatives and Europe has twelve.
It implements the strategic direction set by the world assembly. It also leads and generates debate about the movement’s missions – activism, solidarity, communication, training and protecting and promoting Abbé Pierre and Emmaus International’s heritage – and about the movement’s resources.
Executive committee
As well as the chair, between five to seven Emmaus International board members are elected by the board to sit on the executive committee. The committee meets once every two months or so and is appointed by the board to manage Emmaus International’s daily affairs.

Regional boards
Every Emmaus region (Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe) has its own regional board. National delegates sit on the regional boards along with elected members of the region who are also on the board of Emmaus International. The regional boards have the same powers as the international board, but at regional level.
Regional executive committees
Each Emmaus region (Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe) has an executive committee made up of four to six elected members. It has the same powers as the international executive committee, but at regional level.
