Emmaus International

Since 1949, the Emmaus movement has been firmly rooted in its ethos of putting solidarity into action, whilst challenging policy at the same time. Its history is marked by the interrelation between these two goals – taking action for “those who suffer most” and being “the voice of those without a voice”.
From the early 1950s onwards, Abbé Pierre was convinced there could be no limits to the struggle against poverty. Throughout his life, he helped Emmaus establish itself around the world.
