Emmaus Fraternidade Lisbon is located on the outskirts of Lisbon. Twenty five companions live and work at the community. Together, they carry out the traditional work of Emmaus communities of collecting, sorting, repairing and selling goods at low prices. The group has a workshop which is used to repair furniture and to train companions. In addition to the community’s shop, Emmaus Fraternidade Lisbon also runs occasional sales in Lisbon several times a year.

The community is very aware about environmental issues – in 2009 it hosted an event co-organised by Emmaus International and Emmaus Europe about sustainable development. Emmaus Fraternidade Lisbon is also involved in the area of food security. The community promotes responsible production and consumption and the companions tend an organic garden. The community also supports awareness-raising campaigns about this issue. Since it wishes to retain its financial independence, the community refuses any kind of subsidy.
