The Emmaus Social Foundation Group has been behind a range of initiatives in the Basque Country, Asturias (since 2001) and Galicia since 2006. Its initiatives, based on the concept of solidarity, offer people on the edge of society the opportunity to work and to be reintegrated into society.

These people do traditional Emmaus community work: collecting, sorting, repairing and reselling used goods at low prices. This work also plays an important role in protecting the local environment.

The Emmaus Social Foundation Group is made up of several initiatives: 2 EkoShops (second-hand shops) and 3 EkoCenters (large second-hand shops); SINdesperdicio (bags and other accessories made from recycled advertising banners); and Comercio Justo (a local Fair Trade organisation), which was created at the same time as the group.

The Emmaus Social Foundation Group's programmes aim to give back dignity and freedom to people in difficulty. The group relies on the values of innovation, quality and humanism in its fight against poverty and exclusion. It also works to fight against inequality by raising awareness through education.
