The 24 companions at Emmaus Mossley do traditional Emmaus community work: collecting, sorting, repairing and reselling donated goods at affordable prices. The group runs a café selling drinks, sandwiches, soup, and cakes. Both the community and retail areas are located in Longlands Mill, which was originally a working cotton mill. The community is on the top floors with the shop, café and workshops located on the first two floors of the mill.  The group purchased the community building in 1996 and it was extended in 2006. It now houses an additional six bedrooms. In addition to the Mossley community and shop they also have a second smaller second-hand shop located in the nearby picturesque village of Uppermill. Donated goods are sold through the shops, if necessary they are refurbished in the workshop before being put for sale.  All proceeds support the community and maintenance of the mill and any surplus monies are given as solidarity to support those in need in the wider communities of Tameside and Oldham as well as support being given to new communities just opening in the North West of England. Emmaus Mossley also supports Emmaus International projects through solidarity sales held both in the community and outside.
