Emmaus International

Today is the opening of the Emmaus International Africa Regional meeting in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Today is also the 57th anniversary of Burkina Faso’s independence – certainly a happy coincidence!

This week will be dedicated to reflection and sharing experiences among actors in all Emmaus groups in Africa, working together to define a shared strategy of action to fight the causes of poverty at the continental, national and group level.

This meeting will open with a whole morning dedicated to Abbé Pierre and his struggles for democracy and solidarity, in Africa and all over the world.

Over the course of the meeting, the movement’s three struggles – for an ethical and solidarity economy, for social and environmental justice, and for peace, freedom of movement and residence for universal citizenship – will be at the heart of discussions.

A visit to the country’s groups is also planned for Thursday to help understand their context.
We are certain that this meeting will be an opportunity for exchange, and will inject energy into Emmaus groups in Africa and, therefore, the movement as a whole on the international level.
