Emmaus International

On Wednesday 1st December, the 350 participants at the World Assembly 2021 organised in digital form re-elected Patrick Atohoun as president of Emmaus International.

For the first time in its history and due to the health crisis, which prevented the organisation of an in-person event, the Emmaus International World Assembly is being held online from 30th November until today. Over 350 participants representing 220 groups present in 37 countries have attended this event being broadcast from Saint-Malo, France.

Two Emmaus group leaders, from Peru and Benin, stood for the role of Chair of Emmaus International. After a rich debate between the candidates, the vote went in favour of Patrick Atohoun. He will now begin a second mandate until 2025. Both candidates were delighted to have succeeded in making this democratic moment happen despite the digital constraints.

Both also invite the movement to meet in Uruguay in 2022 for the second, in-person part of the Assembly, when we will vote on the collective guidelines for the coming years.
