World Water Day is on the 22nd March. Throughout the world today, even in Europe, access to water for all and its sustainable management are seriously threatened by the culture of financialisation.
Healthcare in Burkina: Mutual health schemes in action
Following the procedure applied to all other Emmaus healthcare programmes, a support mission visited Burkina Faso from 15th to 18th February 2016, during the General Assembly of members of the Emmaus Burkina Faso Africa Mutual Health Scheme (MSA). The meeting was an opportunity to assess the progress of the pilot project, as well as the running, coordination and governance of the scheme, and the involvement of its various stakeholders.
In May 2016, after ten years of work on the lake, the Nokoué project will come to an end. However, this doesn’t mean that the work stops – far from it! Having received support for several years, the people of Nokoué now independently manage the infrastructure and awareness-raising activities.
The pilot project is moving forward! It has already provided the 70,000 inhabitants of the area surrounding Lake Nokoué with access to drinking water and now the final phases are underway. This week will see the inauguration of the boat equipped with a tank - the conclusion of a project cofounded by the European Union and launched in 2010.
