Poppy John Xavier, who has been an active member of Emmaus Kudumbam (in Southern India) for more than 20 years, believes that collective labor cultivates the values of solidarity and respect. For her, the strength of the Emmaus movement lies in its role as ‘seed’ for the future.
In Finland, the association Emmaüs Åland is constantly coming up with new ideas for recycling and creating jobs. That’s what gave rise to this solidarity cafe, which enables both recovered food to be recycled and people who’ve been unemployed for a long time to get back into the swing of working life.
Read more ...In January 2016, an Emmaus International delegation set off to visit the Emmaus Thanapara Swallows association in Bangladesh in order to take stock of the progress made in providing access to healthcare in this isolated region where the local population lacks access to its fundamental rights. Through its numerous activities and strong roots in the village, Emmaüs Thanapara works to remedy this as far as possible, ensuring people’s fundamental rights are upheld.
In Sweden, Emmaus Björkå carries out the tasks traditionally undertaken by Emmaus communities: collecting, sorting, repairing and selling goods at low prices. However, what’s special about this community is that the income it generates goes first and foremost to fund solidarity projects and campaigning efforts in favour of migrants.
